The Story Behind This Painting:
I wanted to do a still life painting and really see how realistically I could paint if I put my mind to it. But to fit in with the "Just for Fun" series, it needed a silly twist. I can't remember why I was thinking about a cornucopia, or at what moment it dawned on me that with bananas it looked an awful lot like a hermit crab, but I eventually started sketching it and it seemed like a fun and subtle idea that would fit perfectly in the series.
Unlike most of my paintings, I was able to work from just 3 photos - the background, the still life, and the crab. It is also unique because it is considerably smaller than most of my paintings.
This painting is one of five paintings included in the "Just For Fun" Show - A collection of paintings done in an imaginative realist style. It was my first virtual art show. The show includes a video that you can find on youtube. It was painted during the COVID 19 pandemic as part of a show that was supposed to be held at a Gallery in Phoenix. When the show was canceled due to Covid, I decided to just show the series on my own online.
