This one of a kind original oil painting is loved by hundreds of people who've bought prints and greeting cards of the piece. I do not paint duplicate original paintings or paint embellishments on prints. There is not another painting like this one in the world, and it could be yours, because it is still available! Though probably not for long, because feather cats tend to sell fast.
The painting is 20 inches tall by 16 inches wide on linen. It comes in a removable frame. Shipping and Tax are included in the price. The painting comes with the story about the painting, my autobiography, and a copy of "There Will Be Nonsense" a book containing 30 of my paintings. There is a signature on the front of the painting and on the back.
For this painting, there are two editions of signed and numbered archival giclee prints on German Cotton Hanamuhle 308 GSM Photo Rag Paper:
350 x Small ~7 x 10 inch
350 x Large ~ 15 x 19 inch
There are no canvas prints or prints made on any other surfaces
When you buy a painting or archival print from this site, you are buying directly from me, the artist, Leah Kiser. Your purchase helps keep my business operational and helps me keep painting more work like this.
The Story Behind This Painting:
"Red With Rage" was painted in January/February of 2022 at the Celebration of Fine Art in Scottsdale, Arizona. It is part of a series of paintings of colorful feather cats including - Fine Feathered Friends, Purrrdy, Freckled Feather Kitten, and Fancy Meeting You Here.
The feather cats evolved from my previous work. I was painting anthropomorphized dinosaurs and one had a pink feather boa. I enjoyed painting the feathers, so I put them on some boa constrictors. Then, I decided I wanted the feathers to be a main feature instead of just an accessory. But how? I saw some scuptures by a sculptor named Ellen Jewett who was making animals from plants, and I thought Ooo! I can do that with feathers!
I painted a pair of pink feather cats and they were very well received, so I found a feather boa shop on etsy and made many purchases. One purchase was this great red feather boa with black striped feathers. The feathers were also quite pointy, giving it a menacing feeling. I wanted the cat to also emulate the feeling given off by the appearance of the boa. My cat, "Tortuga" who poses for many of the feather cat paintings does not have a menacing bone in her body, so I had to find a photo of a cat from the internet to work from. I believe this cat is a Maine Coon (Maine Coon is a breed of cat). To add to its personality, I added to fun details to the background including a scratched up couch, knocked over vase, and rodent buried in the potted plant. The checker patterned floor is also a fun element that adds to the humor and fantasy of the piece.
I wasn't sure what to name the piece, until a woman came to my booth; while enjoying the other feather cats in the print bin, she told me her cat was "red with rage" because she'd just bought a new puppy. I told her she had just named my newest painting.
